HSMS is a Health & Safety management system that is fully supported by management at all levels within an organisation and includes a coordinated and systematic risk management approach to workplace occupational health and safety.

The Australian/New Zealand Standard, AS/NZS 4804.2001: Occupational health and safety management systems - General guidelines on principles, systems and supporting techniques, provides guidance on the development and implementation of an occupational health and safety management system, principles and integration with other management systems.

AS/NZS 4801.2001: Occupational health and safety management systems – Specifications with guidance for use, helps to meet the auditable criteria for an occupational health and safety management system.
